My name is Grace and my story is amazing. Once I got lost, but I was found by the caring people at the Good Shepherd Center at 5150 Highway 411 in Madisonville, TN. The staff and volunteers made me feel at home and provided me with a box of food and even a set of clothes if I needed them. All at no cost!
I’ve seen them in action aiding Monroe County residents who need a helping hand. This organization is amazing. The team listens to their situation and determines if they can be assisted. If eligible, they begin receiving assistance including a monthly box of food, clothing, medical care and emergency assistance on utility bills. Just like they treated me with respect and dignity, the Good Shepherd Center team welcomes everyone coming through that door. If they do not qualify for assistance, the team directs them to other agencies that could meet their needs. This past month the Center provided food to 1640 individuals, with45 of those stating they were homeless in our county.
If you haven’t witnessed a USDA day, on the 4th Friday of each month, you need to call in and volunteer. On this special day those who receive some government assistance can receive a box of government provided food. Cars begin lining up at 6:30am to receive their box of food. Around 300 boxes of food are provided every month. It’s an operation to behold, with an army of volunteers giving back to their community. They could always use your help. Currently, the Center is providing an opportunity to honor a Veteran by purchasing a box of food with a $25 donation or $300 for a year’s worth of support.
You can make that donation on their website at:

or send a check to:

Your donation will be identified with a notation in the box of food of your support and gratitude for their service.
